Artist's Statement I began to study the art of metal smithing and jewelry making in 1994, as a way to relieve the stress of teaching science in an inner city middle school. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to study with many well known instructors across the United States. Eventually, I gave up my teaching career to pursue my jewelry art full time. I especially enjoy the art of chasing and repousse, in which the entire design is hammered into the jewelry using tiny stakes and a rather small hammer. The Celtic Knot necklace, pictured below was created using this technique. Another one of my favorite things to do is to create affirmation jewelry. I am a firm believer that we are what we think. We can focus on the negative, or on the positive. The choice is ours. The affirmation jewelry I create contains a positive message for the wearer, thereby helping the wearer to focus on the positive.
